Thursday, January 24, 2008 A Terrifying Day for my client!!!
This morning i reached Ritz Carlton at 8.30am. One of my regular clients has a Board of Directors' meeting and i sent 2 Jap interpreters there. As per normal practice, i went there to make sure everything is ok. I normally leave when the conference starts. However, today i was stucked there till 1pm.... My client is a jap from a jap company. They brought in their own sound systems, mikes, receivers, headsets etc. They did the setup last night & everything was ok. However, this morning, the interpreters could hear what the audience says, but when they translated into Jap, the system couldn't pick it up & no one in the audience with headsets could hear the interpretation...wow lao...hell broke loose manz...you could see my client turning on & off every button, pulling in & out every cable, and the 2 booth guys were helping him...and all this while, my client's face turn from black to grey to white to greyish white...i could see him trembling...like what i always like to say - what can go wrong will go wrong... After a while, i suggested to my client, why not we get the booth guys to go back their office to pick up their own systems and rush back. After 1.5 hours, and several severe scolding from his Jap superiors later, he finally relented and took my advice. So i quickly told the guys to rush & they were very professional, did everything with 1 hour. Client was so relieved when after lunch, everything returned to normal...he could finally swallowed some lunch. When i had to come back office, he shook my hand hard & gave me a big hard, kept thanking me... I hope he will be fine after today's conference. He's a really nice old man and you know japanese la...sekali he feels so guilty for today's screw up that he resigns...aiyo...
